The presence of another student would be particularly bad - he was supposed to keep Professors at arms length, as it was uncool (until somebody stated otherwise) that a student would have a friendly conversation with a teacher. Perhaps someone like Professor Hawthorne would dodge the bullet. Someone like Nikolai had no sense, nor understand of how or why things go from being cool to uncool: but he could just about see past the faces of others and keep to his own mind. Professor Hawthorne was pretty cool.

I mean, come on: there's invited snacks and no lecture. No sense in being sceptical about his kindness: he was an adult after all, and therefore outright with absolutely everything.

The texture of the Macaroon melted on his tongue and left a saturated sugary paste. He looked at the Professor with a contributive smirk: oh weren't they just awful - he got the joke, and decided on cue to laugh at his cleverness. There was something great about being clever, although it was far off being wise. Nikolai liked to think he was very, very clever.

"No point trying to get past you, hey Professor? Although your lack of concern says otherwise - I promise not to tell. And don't worry, my innocent mind hasn't been warped into following your example," He shoved the remainder of the Macaroon in his mouth, dusting off his fingers with a cheek-filled grin. Yes - he really did like to think himself as clever. There wasn't a thought in his mind that he may have gone too far there. Hawthorne was way too relaxed to have him feeling any different.

Hawthorne's hard, black eyes were notably contrasted with Nikolai's slant blue ones. Both of their eyes held malice, but for different reasons. Hawthorne's eyes held the malice of knowledge - of knowing full well that he was cleverer than most others, and had every right to do things his way; although he must battle through the treacherous swamps of colourful fools sporting ugly wizard hats and charming the halls to sing. Nikolai's eyes held the malice of others - a blank canvas to be filled with hatred for others' enemies. In short, one lived to serve himself - the other lived to serve others.
