Darkness crept through the bustling city of New Orleans. That didn't stop the multitude of locals and tourists alike from continuing their day to night activities. Dusk meant one thing for Frederick, freedom. Night was a blessed thing to him, as he could walk freely among the populace. Tonight, however, Frederick was on a mission, different from his usual bar hopping. He was hungry, he needed to feed. There was one place that Frederick enjoyed finding his next meal. There was a park, not too far from where he slept. One would not call his state of cursed blood, living. The park was home to the usual joggers and delinquents. Fred's favorite meal was the ones who took care of themselves. The ones whose blood wasn't tainted by drugs or incurable illnesses.
Frederick pulled his coat over his shoulders and checked himself over once more in the mirror before shrugging his shoulders and walking out the door. He raced down the stairs, keeping his darkening eyes on the ground he walked on. It was a trick he had learned in the past. If the humans couldn't make eye contact with him, they wouldn't suspect him of being what he was, Swiftly, Frederick walked through the streets of New Orleans, only to find himself immersed in a gorgeous scenery. It was certainly something to see a concrete jungle turn into a haven so quickly. Lush greenery surrounded Frederick. His senses tingled at the first sight of the human running passed him. Fred's nostrils perked up, his insides clenched as he watched his potential meal pass him by. Fred couldn't let something so succulent looking get away from him.
In a few strides, Fred was now ahead of the jogger by a few meters. His eyes narrowed, his target was now locked. The unsuspecting victim ran right into Frederick. He, using his above normal reflexes, caught the jogger in his arms. He looked into her eyes and she immediately began to scream. Before anyone could hear the young woman, Fred put his hand over her mouth, and tilted her head sideways to get a better angle at her jugular vein. His fangs quickly poured from his gums, entering themselves in their entirety into her neck. She tasted so sweet. The human's nectar spilled from her body, bringing sustenance and strength back into the vampire. He drank until her heart was faint enough to stop beating on its own. He felt her body go limp in his arms. He lifted his head from her dying body and quickly disposed of the corpse in the bushes.
Frederick quickly wiped his mouth, hoping to have caught all of the leftovers that usual hung around in that area. A sigh of relief escaped Fred's blood stained lips. He walked out of the corpse disposal spot, only to find himself running into someone a few meters away.
"Oh goodness, I'm terribly sorry. I was not watching where I was going." He spoke apologetically, letting his thick English accent hang in the evening air.
