[attr="class","bhstext"]Chani stood alongside her fellow classmates, Ulrich on one side of her and a pretty vast space between them and anyone else. If Ulrich hadn't been considered weird before, he was now by association. Everyone gave Chani a very wide berth, far too wide for such a small person. She didn't mind much anymore, she was used to it. At least, that's what she told herself. Dawn had been a little off all day, but now she was really off. The girl was on edge and felt weirdly panicky. It wasn't until they reached the forest that she realized it was because something nearby the castle was hurt. It was in the forest somewhere and she simply had to help it. Chantal was torn between staying for the class and not getting punished for running off in the forbidden forest and helping whatever poor creature needed her help. Something was up, that was for sure and she was trying to ignore the concerned glances Ulrich was sending her way. Things between them had been awkward and weird since the night of the First Task and after party. After calming down, Chani had confessed to having a crush on him and neither of them knew how to approach it. Chani had never had a relationship or been kissed. Duncan wouldn't allow it and had actually stopped her almost first kiss the year before. This was the main reason that she was very careful with Ulrich and wouldn't let her older brother find out who he was.

Dawn looked up at Ulrich, biting her lip and slipped her hand gently into his. It was an intimate gesture, the most intimate gesture she had ever made, in fact. She had only ever held hands with a boy and Rick was the only boy she had done that with. Something was wrong, and it was written clear across the female Gryffindor's face. All of a sudden, when the groundskeeper and Professor of the Care of Magical Creatures class had turned away from them, Chantal stretched up to whisper in Ulrich's ear. "Something's hurt, I need to go help it." She couldn't live with herself if she didn't. Part of the reason that she liked Rick so much was that he didn't judge her. He didn't question her when she spoke of auras and just knew something like this. He accepted, and she thought liked, her for who she was. His hand was dropped and she quickly, but silently ran out of the clearing and into the trees. People often said that Chani hovered instead of walked, she didn't make a sound. . . But Ulrich certainly did and she could hear him following behind her. Dang it. She thought. He was going to get himself in trouble for her. She didn't stop, though. Her run slowed to a walk and she looked around thoroughly as she walked, watching for any signs of a hurt creature. And then she saw it. . . An Acromantula about the size of human Chani. She stopped in her tracks just as Ulrich caught up. She gulped audibly and looked at him. Was she scared? Hell yes. But, she had to help it.
